Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang said parents should not worry too much about choosing “AI-proof” subjects for their children, arguing that traditional human skills such as storytelling, creativity and communication will continue to matter even as artificial intelligence (AI) reshapes industries. Speaking to Channel NewsAsia, the Nvidia chief said the key for students and professionals will be learning how to use AI to improve their work and skills rather than fearing the technology. “So whatever you decide is your passion, the only one thing that you have to do is to make sure that you ask yourself how can AI help elevate my learning, my craft, my purpose,” he said.
Jensen Huang says human skills will still matter
When asked what children should study to stay relevant in the AI era, Huang replied, “I think that it won’t matter.” “All the things that used to matter are still things that are going to matter in the future,” he said.Jensen Huang pointed to journalism, broadcasting, arts and design as examples of areas where human judgment and creativity will remain important. He said good reporters and interviewers succeed not only because they prepare questions, but because they stay in the moment and react to conversations in real time.“You’re also staying in the moment, listening to my question and picking up on something that maybe the audience would be interested in,” Huang said.He added that storytelling would continue to be valuable even as AI tools become more advanced. “The ability to tell a story for an audience will remain just as important in the future as it is today,” Huang said.The Nvidia CEO also spoke about the importance of art and creativity, saying fields such as filmmaking, car design and chip-making would continue to matter in the future.
