NOIDA: A 19-year-old woman from Assam has been found dead at a paying guest accommodation in Noida, with police suspecting she was killed following an argument with a man who lived in the same building.The blood-soaked body of Mahak Ahmed, from Dibrugarh, was found in a locked room in Baraula village on August 10. The room belonged to Raman, a BTech graduate from Bihar.Police has taken the accused into custody, according to officials.Mahak had completed Class 12 and had arrived in Noida about three weeks before her death without informing her parents. She was staying at the accommodation with her 18-year-old friend, Sanjana, also from Assam.Both women lived on the first floor of a three-storey building. Raman occupied another room on the same floor.Police said Mahak and Sanjana were walking through the corridor on the night of August 8 when they allegedly got into an argument with Raman, who was sitting outside his room and drinking alcohol.Investigators are trying to establish what led to the argument and what happened afterwards.The following day, Sanjana left the accommodation for some work. When she returned, Mahak was missing and could not be reached as her phone was switched off.Residents later noticed a foul smell coming from Raman’s locked room. Raman was not at the property, and the landlord was informed.At around noon on August 10, police received a call through Dial-112. Officers reached the accommodation, opened the room and found Mahak’s body.Police said there were several injury marks on her body, including wounds that appeared to have been caused by a sharp-edged weapon. The body was sent for an autopsy and forensic teams examined the room and collected evidence.A murder case has been registered against Raman following a complaint by the landlord, Sarthak Bansal.Raman had previously worked for an IT company, although some residents told police he had been unemployed for several days. His employment history and movements before the killing are being verified.Investigators have also taken Mahak’s phone into custody and are examining her call records, chats and other digital activity.Police are investigating when Mahak may have entered Raman’s room, what happened between the two, how long Raman stayed at the property after the killing and how he may have left.The August 8 argument remains a key lead, although police said the motive has not yet been established and other possibilities are also being investigated.Mahak’s family travelled from Assam to Noida after being informed about her death and completed the identification formalities.
