NEW DELHI: A 17-year-old juvenile was apprehended after a group allegedly attacked three policemen with bricks and sticks and threw chilli powder into their eyes while they were performing patrolling duty in northwest Delhi’s Mukundpur area on Saturday, police said. One of the policemen suffered a head injury.The incident took place around 3.30pm in Janta Vihar under Bhalswa Dairy police station. According to police, head constables Dinesh and Rajesh were patrolling the area when they found a motorcycle without valid documents. The vehicle was taken to the police station for deposition under Section 66 of the Delhi Police Act.“Around 3.30pm, when the policemen returned to their beat, a group including the motorcycle owner and his family members allegedly confronted them over the police action. The group turned violent and allegedly threw chilli powder into the policemen’s eyes before assaulting them with bricks and sticks. Head constable Tinu, who reached the spot to assist his colleagues, was also attacked,” a senior police officer said.All three policemen sustained injuries, with Dinesh suffering a head injury. They were provided medical treatment and are said to be stable.With the help of local residents, police apprehended a 17-year-old juvenile from the spot, while the other accused fled.A case has been registered at Bhalswa Dairy police station under Sections 221 (obstructing a public servant in the discharge of public functions), 132 (assault or criminal force to deter a public servant from discharging his duty), 121 (voluntarily causing hurt or grievous hurt to deter a public servant from his duty), 110 (attempt to commit culpable homicide), 61 (criminal conspiracy) and 3(5) (common intention) of the BNS.Police said the main absconding accused, Sunil alias Pankaj, is a bad character of the area and has five previous criminal involvements, including two cases under the NDPS Act and other heinous offences. Efforts are underway to apprehend the remaining accused.
