Chris Evans returns as Steve Rogers in Avengers: Doomsday

While Evans has spoken about stepping back from acting and his Marvel commitments, his connection with the superhero franchise is not entirely over.Evans is set to return as Steve Rogers in Avengers: Doomsday, which is scheduled to hit theatres on December 18, 2026. The film is directed by Anthony and Joe Russo and features a large ensemble cast. His return is particularly notable because Sam Wilson, played by Anthony Mackie, currently holds the Captain America shield. Evans’ comeback therefore marks a return to the Steve Rogers character rather than a simple continuation of his previous role as the current Captain America. In a 2023 interview with GQ, Evans said he would “never say never” about returning to the Marvel franchise but wanted to be selective about future appearances.“I’ll never say never, just because it was such a wonderful experience,” he said, while explaining that he would not want a potential comeback to feel like a “cash grab” or fail to live up to expectations. For now, Evans appears to be balancing his return to the Marvel universe with a quieter personal life away from Los Angeles. The sale of his longtime Hollywood Hills home comes as he prepares to spend more time on the East Coast with his family.
