GURGAON: A section of a balcony collapsed at a luxury apartment complex in Gurgaon on Thursday morning after heavy rain, raising fresh concerns over the structural safety of the residential project.No injuries were reported, police said.The incident occurred in Tower E of the Imperia Esfera Phase-2 complex in Sector 37D. Residents said they heard a loud noise when part of a first-floor balcony gave way and crashed to the ground.A resident said no one was hit by the falling debris, even though people had been passing beneath the balcony around the time of the collapse. He added that he was not aware of any injuries caused by the incident.Police and officials from the local administration reached the spot after receiving information. The area has been cordoned off, and authorities have launched an investigation. Officials also carried out an inspection of the site.The incident has triggered concern among residents, who blamed the collapse on what they described as the builder’s continued negligence.They said residents had staged a protest inside the society last month over the deteriorating condition of basic amenities.Residents have urged the administration to order a structural audit of the entire project by an independent third-party agency. They said no tower should be considered safe until the structural integrity of the entire complex has been assessed.“This is a deeply alarming incident. Although the flat was unoccupied, the falling debris could have injured other residents. The collapse of the slab has also damaged a pillar, compromising the safety of the entire tower. We will lodge a complaint with police and demand an investigation by the DTP department,” Hemant Kumar, RWA president of the society, said.
