Only Portugal’s Cristiano Ronaldo has scored more, with 24 goals (10 in the World Cup and 14 in the European Championship).Kane also strengthened his record in knockout matches. According to Opta, he now has 10 goals in knockout games across the World Cup and the Euros since Euro 2020. France’s Kylian Mbappe is next with seven, while Dani Olmo, Kasper Dolberg and Goncalo Ramos have three each.England found themselves behind early after Brian Cipenka gave DR Congo the lead in the seventh minute. Congo controlled large parts of the game before Kane turned the match around with goals in the 75th and 86th minutes to seal England’s place in the next round.The brace also moved Kane ahead of Brazil great Pele on the FIFA World Cup scoring list. Kane now has 13 World Cup goals, one more than Pele’s tally of 12.He also went past Geoff Hurst for the second-most knockout goals scored by an England player at the FIFA World Cup. Kane now has five knockout goals, while Hurst finished with four. Only Gary Lineker has more with six.Kane has also moved beyond Lineker’s overall World Cup tally.
