Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy left the team’s training camp after his wife, Mia Bieniemy, was shot at their home in Virginia on Sunday night. According to ESPN, 57-year-old Mia was taken to a hospital and is now in stable condition. Eric Bieniemy was with the Chiefs at training camp in St. Joseph, Missouri, when the incident happened. The Chiefs confirmed they are aware of the situation, while Loudoun County authorities said one person suffered serious injuries but did not publicly identify the victim.

Following the incident, Eric Bieniemy left the Chiefs to be with his family and did not attend Monday’s training camp practice.The Chiefs also released a statement to ESPN, saying, “We are aware of an incident involving Eric Bieniemy’s family.” The team did not share further details.Loudoun County authorities told ESPN that officers responded to the home after receiving reports of a shooting. They confirmed that one person was being treated for serious injuries but did not officially name the victim. As of now, officials have not released more information about what led to the shooting, and the investigation is ongoing.

Earlier this year, Kansas City brought Eric Bieniemy back as offensive coordinator after parting ways with Matt Nagy. It marked his return to the franchise after three seasons away.Bieniemy left the Chiefs in 2023 to become the offensive coordinator of the Washington Commanders. The team finished that season with a 4-13 record while Sam Howell was the starting quarterback. He later spent one season at UCLA before joining the Chicago Bears as running backs coach under head coach Ben Johnson.Before leaving Kansas City, Bieniemy helped the Chiefs win two Super Bowls and built a strong reputation as one of the league’s respected offensive coaches. Even with that success, he has not yet received an NFL head coaching job. When Bieniemy returned to Kansas City earlier this year, tight end Travis Kelce welcomed the move with strong praise.
