Bangladesh says Tarique Rahman’s India visit will happen only after progress in bilateral talks, stressing national interests
Bangladesh has said there is “no rush” for Prime Minister Tarique Rahman to visit India and stressed that Dhaka would not compromise its national interests while seeking a positive relationship with New Delhi.State minister for foreign affairs Humayun Kabir said Rahman’s visit would take place at an appropriate time after sufficient progress was made in bilateral discussions, state-run BSS news agency reported.“If we reach an agreement based on our national interests tomorrow, we can go next week, or the week after. There is no rush here,” news agency PTI quoted Kabir saying.The remarks came after external affairs minister S Jaishankar said ties between India and Bangladesh should serve the mutual interests of both countries.
